Will these invasions ever stop?
There is hope on the spyware front.
Chris Berman, of the ad network Dedicated LA was quoted at News.com saying that 50 to 60 percent of Internet users now use popup blocking technology on their computers. Perhaps as more of us use these blockers, advertisers will get the message and stop the pops.
The House of Representatives passed HR 4661, known as the "Internet Spyware Prevention Act" or I-SPY, on October 7th, 2004, sending a message to spyware creators that we will not tolerate these uninvited intrusions. The use of spyware to gain unauthorized entry or to steal information from a computer will be punishable by fines. prison time or both. The Senate is working on similar legislation and there is hope for a final vote by year’s end. There is hope!
