What are viruses?
Viruses are pieces of program code that make copies of themselves and then attach to a computer. These bits of programs are designed to damage your computer system, sometimes beyond repair. They can prevent you from using your computer, make your private information public, copy your email address book, send copies of themselves to your friends and family, and generally wreak havoc in your system. "Worms" and "trojans" are often referred to as viruses. These are both types of malicious software that, along with viruses, can be prevented or eliminated with up-to-date anti-virus software.
SuperPA.net recommends that all its customers have virus protection software installed on their computers. It's also important to keep that software current with the latest virus definition updates. If you haven't installed virus protection software and your computer is infected, we can check for and remove any viruses present. We can also install virus protection software for you.
What is adware or spyware?
Adware, or advertising supported software, is any program that displays advertisement while you are using it. These programs are often available at a low cost or even for free. The advertising helps pay for the cost of creating the software. You may not realize when you download a program that you will constantly be viewing advertisements or pop-ups.
Some adware tracks your personal information and sends it on to a third party without your knowledge. This is known as spyware.
Need to remove adware or spyware? We recommend two programs that work well when used together. Adaware is a free program that defeats a great deal of advertising supported software. Spybot Search and Destroy removes spyware that can affect your computer as well. Both can be downloaded from the author's site at no charge.
Can you connect, but can't seem to "go" anywhere? Many times an error has occured in windows that can be repaired by using a program called WinsockFix. We offer this program to our customers free of charge on diskette if you stop by, or you can download it from this link.
